Reflection Of A Day In November 1

What have I learned?: I learned about devices, being cyber-smart, space and early NZ settlers. What have I enjoyed?: All the special activities including making things for inquiry and doing the bridle path walk. What I will work on for next week?: Maybe getting better at writing. What was challenging?: Making models for the NZ settlers inquiry. Something I have done well: At spelling and reading I think I do well.   

The War To End All Wars.

Part 1: I was digging my trench compartment in no mans land during world war 1. We were facing German forces for a new technique of war called Trench Warfare. Trench warfare was long and bloody. We were told the trench warfare here might go on for the entire war. After hours we had set up our trenches. Same as the Germans. I heard we had a few weapons to help us labelled "Water Tanks".  We did not know what they looked like but they were claimed to be powerful. We opened fire at each other. In minutes both sides lost many men. The violence was horrible. Then all the sudden "Water Tanks" rolled onto the battlefield. I knew they were the "water tanks" because they were still labelled "Water Tanks". The Commander said "The Water Tanks are called tanks more commonly because they are labelled water tanks so usually officers call them tanks". The Commander shouted "USE YOUR PLANKS TO MAKE BRIDGES FOR THE VEHICLES". So we did, the "Tanks" almost broke the bridges. The sight of the "Tanks" made the Germans fear us. But after a while they were all stuck in mud but still they could fire. The commander said to charge. We did as we were told. Then what was that a flash then in a instant blackness. When i wok up i was from the looks of it being transported to a P.O.W camp. To be continued.

Drama Reflection

 What we did: We got into pairs then Sharon paired up the pairs. After that we decided our jobs, since I had no job I was the leader. In my team there is Duke, Hezekiah, Jasper and me, George.

 Sharon gave us the Humpty Dumpty nursery rhyme. We decided what voices we would act out and I picked a sleepy person. We acted out voices for a nursery rhyme. Before the nursery rhyme we did a video on why we picked drama and our names.

 What went well: Nothing better than ok. 

What challenges did i face?: Nothing challenging. 

What would I change for next time?: To make us work quicker on the videos. 2nd Time: On the 22nd day of the 11th month 2021 we did some more drama. First we did a book thingy to plan our thing. We did not get to the next step which was to film the show. The things we are going to do that we have planned is the pigs build the house then the wolf creeps up. We have not planned the last bit in the book thingy but we have thought of the end: The cauldron will melt the bricks so they fall in and water comes out putting the fire out and the wolf eats the pigs (We did 3 Little Pigs).                My Science Inquiry - Similar Planets

I am learning about space and how planets are similar to each other.

I chose to work with Jamison because we are friends so we would not argue lots. Plus if I did not know how to do something he could help me because he is a Year 5 so he knows a little more than me.

We have gathered our information on the Google Slide below. 

 

This google slide Is What Me And Jamison Have been working on to collect our facts.

Our questions are: 

  

 1) How is Earth and Mars similar and different? 

2) When will humans colonize/settle on Mars?

2) Are there other planets that we haven't discovered that we can live on?

WHAT I LEARNT!!!

•  About Kepler 186F. It is in a different star system and might be habitable but it will probably be ages until a manned spacecraft reaches it.
• Mars has moons to be exact 2 moons of about 24 kilometres in diameter. 
• NASA will land on Mars eventually. Possibly in the late 2030's or 2050's is what I remember hearing.

We are sharing our learning by making a Kahoot.  We need our Chromebooks and Kahoot permission.

I'm proud of how we made the slideshow.

The most challenging thing was: finding the facts because Google did not answer what we wanted to the longer questions.

                  

Island Survival

On Friday the 13th of March 1943 I was captaining a U.S submarine And a German bomber had made the sub immobile. I was knocked unconscious and next thing I knew I was washed up on an island with My ex officer Caleb and my crew officer Luca. But my most trusted regular crewman Jasper was M.I.A ( missing in action). Me and the others grabbed an emergency axe and chopped some tree's down. Then we cut off the sides of the trees and made wooden poles. Then we looked for some cloth in the sub for a thing to sleep in. We chopped the wood beams in half and tied the bits together with cloth we were not using for beds for the base of the beds. We also tied some logs to 4 close together trees for a roof. And I remembered I had a pistol on me so I went hunting for meat. We used the engine of the sub to cook the meat because the engine was on fire but we stood in the next room but we were still roasting. While scavenging the sub for supplies we found something great… The food and water room and nothing had gone. We grabbed all the food and water we could find. This could supply us for days said Caleb. Yeah said Luca. We then ate some food then we ate biscuits for dessert. Then we went to bed. At midnight some wolfs attacked us fortunately Luca had a rifle and i had a pistol so we killed and ate the wolfs but we ate them for breakfast in the morning. I said mmmmm this is delicious. We saw an RAF plane flying towards us from about 3-5 kilometres away. We quickly wrote on the beach with a stick HELP. Once the plane was 200 meters away we threw a grenade with the pin pulled out to show we were alive. Over the course of the next 2 weeks none of us saw an allied rescue plane so we thought the plane did not notice us. When we went back to camp and found... JASPER!!! he said hi to us and we said hi back. We invited him to stay at our camp and he said yes. We all were happy to be back together. We did the same thing for accommodation for Jasper as we did for us. We also did some more tree chopping and made the walls for our shelter. But we still had a hole where the door would go. The next day we tied some wood together with flax and tied 2 metal plates to the wood and made these wood walls like railing coming off the wall edges at the doorway then rested the hatch in the doorway. Our first door we were very proud of ourselves. But the next day we ran out of food and could not find any pigs or wolfs. But while me and Luca went hunting we found a metal hatch and found something horrifying... Dead corpses covered in bullet holes. we found a long strong stick and pushed the people out of the way with it. At the end of the bunker room we opened an vault door and found tons and tons of GOLD BARS AND FOOD AND WATER. When we went back we found jasper with a REALLY cute monkey. He said i got an monkey look at him. I said he was cute. We heard an droning noise and an explosion. We went to look for the noise but just as we left camp we heard our beds ruffling. We went back and found an German. Caleb said look who we have here. I asked the German life or death. He answered life. Luca said you have brought shame upon Germany you are now our prisoner. We found the German not very tough. After a few weeks he told me in privacy his name, James. After a few more weeks i grew to like the German. But on Thursday the 27th of April 1943 we had 1 radio and we heard that an battle had started near us. We all prayed someone would get us off this place. We climbed up the mountain and saw the battle raging on. We saw some Japanese soldiers in 1 landing craft about 10 kilometres away from us. We hurried into the sub found some cloth and turned it into 6 untied empty sandbags. We all grabbed our primitive spades and started shoveling sand into the sandbags once we got them to the calculated landing site. By the time they got there we were just ready. Me and Luca held them off while the others got sharp stones, flax and a stick and made knifes in case. The Japanese were getting closer when Luca was shot. I heard the others and shouted in their direction GIMME A KNIFE AND MAKE A BANDAGE FOR LUCA HES SHOT the reply was OK SIR. We were shouting because of the gunfire by the time the battle ended i was shot like Luca but i was aided second because Luca was already unconscious. After the aiding we searched the Japanese landing crafts. In total we found enough food for 5 people and it would last 2 weeks, An LMG which was handy in case more Japanese came. During the battle a ship rescued us and we were glad to leave. The end.

This is my marshmallow earth. The crust which is made up of tectonic plates  this is chocolate & I cracked the chocolate when it was dry to make the tectonic plates. Then I made the mantle which is the marshmallow and the mantle is the hottest part of the earth. Also there was the outer core which was an m&m shell. Finally the inner core was made of an m&ms chocolate.

Maths Term 3 2021

What i learned:

In Mass: 1. How much 1 kg is which is 1000 grams. 2. 1000 kg is 1 tonne. 3. There are multiple types of weighing scales.

In  Temperature: 1. Hot water melts ice the fastest out of: Sugar, salt, cold water, salt and your hands. 2. Cold water melts ice the slowest out of: Sugar, salt, cold water, salt and your hands. 3. How thermometers work.

In Capacity: 1. How large a 4 and a quarter of cups beaker is. 2.The difference of how fast a small cup can fill a large cup an how fast a spork can fill a large cup with sand. 3. capacity is how much something can hold.

Reflection Term 2 2021

My Favorite: Making the models because i like making models and it was a good challenge. 

My Second Favorite: The end of term 2 because i could have a 2 week break and play my favorite game.

My Biggest Challenge: The bridal path because uphill was steep and tiring while downhill was hard for me to stop myself from falling.

Term 2 Reflection

My Favorite Part: My favorite  part was making my gold mining model with jasper it was a gold challenge tho. The hard thing was we took 2 weeks writing our speech and doing our plan so we only had 1 week to actually make.

My Biggest Challenge: walking up the bridle path because it was windy and steep. I almost injured myself on rocks because it was so windy at the top.

What I Learned: How hard it was for the Europeans to walk up the bridle path. It was hard for me and i was just carrying food and water while they were carrying all their belongings with not so good shoes.

                                                                                                       

What I Am Proud Of: Walking the bridle path because it was a really good challenge. School lunches

 I do like some school lunches and dont particularly think some other school lunches are good but the sad thing is lots of people dont even want to try them. EVEN MORE THAN HALF THE CLASS IN FACT! I know some people who have just had a school lunch once and then they have never eaten another just 1 lunch not 1 of each.

Bridle Path

 Why We Went: To feel how hard it was for the Europeans to come to Christchurch over the port hills.

What We Did: We walked up it, obviously and checked out 2 bunkers from world war 2. At the top me and a few others acted like we were defending the hill form Japanese soldiers.

How I Felt: Really tired walking up the hill because it was steep. Once we were having morning tea the wind was annoying me because it was blowing my bag away.

How Hard I Think It Was For The Europeans: probably really hard because they were cooped up on the ship for 3 months. We had fancy sneakers and just had to carry water and food while they had not as strong shoes and had to carry all the belongings they had.

What The Hardest Bit Was For Me: The walk uphill because It was 65 degrees not in heat.

How I Felt When I Reached The Top: really successful and resilient.

My Term 2 2021 Inquiry

What we made: Me and jasper made an gold mining model which did turn out very good looking. Jasper had to make the slab hut at his house. We had an tree stump with an axe in it, 3 logs in an pile, trees, goats, beer bottles, a musket and an house.

How we made it: We used play mobile and small tree prunings. We used a little help from Jakob. The most funny things we had were 4 beer jugs.

What we did well: Considering me and Jasper are best friends we worked quite well and we wrote a decent speech. I think overall the general construction of the mining model went really well.

What to work on:Maybe speed we did have only 1 week to actually write the speech and build. But just try to work a tiny bit faster.

                                                                                 This is my mosaic it looks like an transformer but its a... SPARTAN! i searched it up on google first i did the sketch. Then i glued the card on.

Ferrymead things i learnt.

1)  School  was harsh because if you spilled ink you got in trouble and if you disrupted class you get hit with a can and when you went home you would be slapped by your parents again.

2) Ladies first and boys held the doors open because doing those things it was nice manners.

3) British and Europeans married Moari women and the children were valued because they could speak both languages.

4) What girls and boys wore. ( Boys: knickerbockers hats and t shirts. Girls: gowns aprons and bonnets).

5) Children had chores like scrubbing the deck and farm work for boys and for girls ironing and dusting.

6) They cooked on a fire outside and not just for cooking they heated irons to iron clothes.

7) The toys kids made for themselves like these things you flipped and it looked like a moving image

8) What immigrants would take with them on a ship usually cotton knitting bars toys and food.

9) What immigrants would leave in the steerage on the journey the steerage was not to be accessed by passengers on the journey.

10) what they used for ironing clothes witch was an iron made of well iron and hot fires heated them.

This is about early nz life.

My Turtle

 This is the turtle that i made. The thing on his face is a gas mask to protect him from MUSTARD gas ( it can make your guts dissolve). It also has an grenade an super grenade an anti brainwash device and an nuclear bomb.

Creating Dampa and butter The Pioneer Way

                                   RECIPE FOR DAMPA:

•  3 cups self raising flour
• pinch of salt
• 80 g butter chilled and cubed
• 185 ml water.

                                                                         Method:

Preheat oven to 200 degrees Celsius then line a backing tray with non stick baking paper. Combine the flour and salt in a large bowl. Use your fingers to rub the butter in until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Add the water to the mixture and use a round bladed knife in a cutting motion to mix until the mixture just comes together. Adding 1-2 tablespoons if the mixture looks dry. Use your hands to bring the mixture together. Turn the dough on a lightly floured surface and knead gently for 1-2 minutes until smooth. Shape into an 18 cm disc and place on tray. Use a sharp knife that has been dipped in flour to mark 8 wedges on top. Dust the damper with a little extra flour and bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes or until the damper is cooked through and sounds hollow when tapped on base. Transfer to a wire rack for 5 minutes to cool slightly. Serve warm or at room temperature, either plain or with your choice of topping.

                   How The Damper Tasted                                        

                          The damper tasted sort of bitter, like a mix of cheese and modern bread.

                      BUTTER RECIPE

                                             I copied this because i couldn't be bothered. 

                                                 

• 1 cup heavy cream 38% fat content
• cold water

Mixer Instructions

• Pour cream into the bowl of a stand mixer using the whisk attachment, or use a mixing bowl and hand mixer. Begin beating the cream on a low speed, and gradually increase the speed as the mixture thickens.
• After several minutes, whipped cream will form. Continue mixing. The whipped cream will start to yellow. After several minutes more the fat solids will separate from the liquids and you'll see clumps of butter fat quickly form, leaving the sloshing liquid buttermilk in the bottom of the bowl.

Mason Jar Instructions

• Pour heavy cream into the mason jar, filling it half-way full. Do not overfill past the half-way mark. Screw the lid on tightly so there are no leaks.
• Shake mason jar for approximately 5-7 minutes. After a few minutes, whipped cream will form. Keep shaking until you hear that a lump has formed inside, and shake an additional 30-60 seconds after that. You should clearly see that the fat solids have separated from the liquids. The amount of time it takes will depend on how vigorously you are able to shake the jar.

Rinsing, Flavoring, and Storing

• Strain the fat solids from the buttermilk using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth. You can reserve the buttermilk and save it for later use in recipes.
• Pour cold water over the butter. Discard water and repeat rinsing 2 times more. Shape into a ball or any other shape (you can purchase butter molds for interesting designs).
• At this point you have butter. You can add in things like salt, honey, and herbs to create flavored butters, or serve in its pure form as is.

                  HOW THE BUTTER TASTED

     The butter did taste better than the bread but it tasted like cream and milk mostly. 10/10 for butter 6/10 for the bread.

                                                            

Ferrymead Heritage Park

We went on the bus at 9.00 PM to go to Ferrymead heritage park as usual me and Jasper were field trip buddies we got off the bus Jasper's dad Adam was leading our group.

We dressed up the Boys wore knickerbockers T-shirts and hats. Girls wore gowns aprons and a hat.

We did the V shaped hut we had to do chores these are the chores:

• Scrubbing the deck
• silverware polishing
• ironing
• putting thatch on the roof
• and cleaning clothes with soap and water.

Then we did immigration we picked a job after that we talked about if we were rich middle or poor the jobs were:

• Blacksmith
• white smith 
• printer
• brick layer
• sheep farmer
• miller
• painter.

My favorite part was on a wagon, We acted like it was NORMANDY!!! (the most famous D-day landing) and i got hit and blown up :D.

We also did packing the trunk and we looked at these objects and decided if we needed them on the voyage or they went to the storage

we also did pioneer crafts and created these things:

• a thing that when you spun it around so say on 1 side there was a bird cage and on the other a bird it
  would look like the bird is in the bird cage
• we made candles out of animal fat and fat from roasts
• the hardest one is french knitting and i cant even explain it just search it up in google or ask serie
• we also did regular knitting.

And thats it for th- oh we also looked at extra buildings like a prison and we were roleplaying at a school a boy named Benji got the cane. Now its actually the end. But before i leave here are some pictures:

1940 (Battle Of Britan) early access

 Day 1: On the 10th of July 1940 Me and some other pilots were at the battle of Britain. Caleb (the gunner) and Jasper were piloting a Avengers Bomber called Pretty lady. Sebastian and Dylan Were in a B29 but i did not get the name. Me and Luca were in a B25. Of course there were still other  gunners apart from Caleb but i i am not naming them. We could see about 900 German Luftwaffe flying right at us. We thought the Luftwaffe pilots were dumb... We were wrong. day 2: I woke up to a siren I had heard it before it was a air raid siren. I got into my B25 with Luca. We saw a explosion we were lucky it was not us. While we were getting into the B25 we could hear AA shells dropping and clinking on the ground, bombs making whooshing noises in the air and most terrifying of all... TANKS armored vehicles with heavy guns. I guessed that the land invasion had begun. I told everyone to hurry up or they would die. Then everyone was pushing to the aircraft some pilots stayed and maned the anti tank guns. Then... BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a bomb that was being loaded into a plane had been shot. Right after that i heard engines starting then finally All the crew of my plane was in we instantly started the engines and took off. Day 3: My plane was not doing great the top gunner was dead my left cheek and tail gunners were wounded. A bullet had also just missed me but the hole was not big enough to make us freeze and to add to the problems chart we were low on fuel and a propeller was down. Luckily Only one other propeller was hit the 2 others were at full power. We saw Jasper and Caleb's plane fall out of the sky and hit the ground then a explosion. The bombs had been detonated all i could see was wiring, metal and blood. Im sorry to interrupt but i can show the aircraft we were piloting. these are the aircraft:

I checked their radio line all i could hear was ear splitting screaming.. then silence either the radio silently failed or they died. WAIT IS THAT AN AIRCRAFT! i shouted at Luca who was keeping that line on.  i guessed they were dead. Luca then said wait it is just Seb and dylan's plane next to our plane. Day 4: We had to land to rearm and refuel or we would run out of ammo and fuel still if we had fuel the plane would  be useless because we had no bombs by then wait what was that. the plane was slowing down. i asked for a plane that could automatically refuel us they said in about an hour the crew heard that and shouted into the radio's they had AN HOUR WE ARE PRETTY MUCH EMPTY PLEASE REFUEL US NOW. WHATS THE CLOSEST REFUELING PLANE GET IT TO US NOW THE PILOT OF THIS PLANE IS A HIGH RANK JUST GIVE US A QUARTER TANK AT LEAST. the reply was... well we dont have many of those planes they are simply to big to create tons of them and they have others in line just to make a short version not enough fuel not enough big planes to many in line now please just move on or refuel on an airfield and wh- WHO IS A LOWER RANK THAN 1ST LIEUTENANT said the crew. Well................... uhhhhhhhhhhhhh you dont ne- OH FINE NO ONE said the man. THEN REFUEL US NOW said the crew. I replied to the man and said actually this wave is over. We landed at the airfield. and refueled

If You want to make a monster you can just look at the picture pretty much. The weird thing on its face is a gas mask. The different coulors are just coulerd pieces of paper glued to the blue paper.

What i learnt at school 2 (not finished)

Today i had fitness. We practiced netball. It was hard but pretty fun.

History of war: The night witches

 The night witches were an all women bomber regiment. They were Russian pilots. Here is a story:

The Germans were camping behind the western front. Their tents were lined up in rows. The winter snow crunched under a German guards boots. All the sudden he saw a dark flying object went past. He did not hear a engine sound. All he could hear was a lady laughing. He lost his footing. Die nacht hexen. He said under his breath Die nacht hexen. Then... BOOM!!! A Night witch had drooped  a bomb.

What i learnt on The 31st march 2021

On Wednesday 31st of march 2021 we did PE. We played some soccer... Well kinda Because there were 2 goals and 1 person per team. 1 person was a goalie and the other tried to kick the ball into a goal. Before we could do that we had to pass the ball to each other across the width of the field twice. We could not dribble the balls. We had to pass slightly in front of the other person. We took turns kicking and being goalie. There were 2 goals so we did not have to wait to long to be goalie. There was about 10 pairs.  

My field trip.

 On Monday the 29 march we went on a field trip to the art gallery,museum and the orchestra. At the museum we first went inside an artificial cave. there we saw a spider as large as my hand. then we looked at a moa skeleton we think it was a giant moa they were the biggest moas that ever lived. We than looked at some boats and moari models. We also looked at some creatures.

This is my portrait I made today. The hardest bit in the process of making it was the outline. I made it by having a teacher take a photo of me. Then she printed it and cut it in half. I did outlines and coloured my face in. 

It felt fun doing it.

B29s

Once during WW2  there was an Japanese sneak attack that the Americans wanted revenge on. The place where the attack happend  was called pearl harbor. At that time the axis had taken china. The allies started a secret project in china meant to drive the axis out of china and deliver a message to japan about war has come home to japan because the Japanese and axis were taking lots of land and the army's of the axis were very strong. but the Chinese people had to build 4  air fields in secret they would house 80 of the strongest planes made during WW2. they  were called a B29. They set flight on Sept 21 1942. The B29 was meant to drop atom (atomic) bombs over Hiroshima and and other cities its main purpose was to bomb big cities. when they took off most of the flight was straight to japan. when they arrived Japanese zero fighters tried to fight the B29s. they were the best fighters at the start of the war. the pilots of the zeros were inexperienced but they had training. the planes quickly stalled out. Even experienced pilots would've stalled out quickly. But then flak backed in one of the planes cockpit got shot off. the plane kept flying straight for a bit but then it spiraled to the ground none of the crew could escape. the plane flipped all of the crew died. planes broke of the formation one after another. but the raid was successful.   

  

                    

  

my birthday

at my birthday party we bad a water fight and my team was holding the main base. we were defending. seb had the artillery but sometimes he asked me to reload the artillery. the enemeys were playing very unfair tho. we actually got out of our base and attacked them and they were taking 50 artillery shells and still surviving. when they held the fort they ducked and started shooting through the railing.  then after the water fight we had cake it was very yum. then we played Lego.
